Transitional Justice
Transitional justice refers to the set of practices, mechanisms, and principles employed by societies to address the legacies of large-scale human rights violations, systemic injustice, and state-sponsored oppression. It is a process of confronting past abuses in order to pave the way for a more just and equitable future.
This approach encompasses various tools and methods, including truth commissions, criminal trials, reparations for victims, institutional reforms, and memorialization efforts. The goal is to hold perpetrators accountable, acknowledge the suffering of victims, and rebuild trust within societies fractured by violence and repression.
For the people of Iran, where decades of authoritarian rule have left countless victims and unresolved traumas, transitional justice offers a framework to break the cycles of impunity. It is a call for transparency, accountability, and healing—a pathway to reclaiming dignity and ensuring that the voices of the silenced are not erased from history.
At Zard, we believe that documenting the truth and amplifying unheard narratives are essential first steps toward achieving transitional justice. Through our work, we hope to contribute to a future where justice is not merely an abstract ideal but a lived reality for all.
About
Zard Project is an initiative dedicated to preserving the memories of those who have suffered under the Islamic Republic’s oppressive regime and beyond. By portraying the faces of victims, amplifying unheard stories, and documenting silenced truths, Zard seeks to challenge erasure and foster awareness about the history of repression in Iran and neighboring regions.
At the heart of Zard are color-coded folders, each representing a distinct area of focus:
Orange: Highlighting stories of domestic violence and the survivors who endure it.
Blue: Shedding light on the struggles and resilience of Afghan women.
Red: Exposing the history and actions of dictators and oppressive regimes.
Purple: Amplifying the voices and experiences of the LGBTQ+ community.=====This platform serves as a space for remembrance, resistance, and hope. It is a tribute to the resilience of individuals who have faced injustice and a call to action for building a future rooted in accountability, transparency, and justice. Through art, storytelling, and categorizing narratives by theme, Zard strives to connect the past to the present, ensuring that the sacrifices of the silenced are never forgotten.
Zard
Zard is an effort to document and reflect a part of the history of repression in Iran. Through portraying the faces of the victims of the Islamic Republic and sharing narratives that have often been silenced in Iranian society, this project seeks to preserve this chapter of history and prevent it from being forgotten. At a time when official histories often ignore the voices of the oppressed, Zard aims to create a platform for these stories to be heard and these overlooked truths to be recorded. It is not just an archive of faces and narratives, but a commitment to safeguarding the collective memory of a nation that has resisted oppression and injustice
